BY THE SEA - A documentary & street photo art series by photographer Paul Williams.

"The Suffolk and Norfolk coast of East Anglia in England has a unique atmosphere. For many years it was cut off by poor roads connecting the area to nearby cities and even today there a empty shingle beaches along the coast that feel very remote indeed. Towns like Aldeburgh with is colourful houses long the seafront, unspoilt by the gaudy kitsch seaside paraphernalia that spoil nearby Great Yarmouth, are national treasures. This is where Benjamin Britten chose to live and compose taking inspiration from the sounds of surf breaking on shingle beaches. You go to the Suffolk coast to relax and get away from it. Even the pier at Southwold is low key affair and a place to enjoy scones and tea rather that candy floss and toffee apples. No kiss me quick hats for sale in Southwold pier shop but rather local smoked fish and carefully selected gifts and mementoes. There is though a wldness to the suffolk coast. Wild poppies still grown on the beaches as do many other rare wild seaside flowers. Dunwich beach is wild and deserted on stormy day when the white dome of Sizewell nuclear power station stands out against the slate grey sky like a soar thumb. Under the sea off Dunwich lies the ruins of a sunken city that in medieval times was bigger than London. Theses resonances from the past add to the mystique and magic of one of my favourite coastlines. I hope you enjoy these galleries". Paul Williams.
