Pictures Images Photos of Manarola, Cinque Terre, Italy. Situated on the Ligurian coast in Italy are 5 villages known as the Cinque Terre. Manarola is probably the oldest and the second most southern of these villages and is a charming fishing village and port who multicoloured houses cling to the sides of a steep ravine that cuts its way into the mountains behind. Until a coastal railway tunnelled under the Cinque Terre linking its villages, Manarola was cut off from the outside and was only accessible from the sea or by following the pathways that weave their way through the vineyards above the villages. Until the tourists arrive Manarola is still time locked and has not been spoilt in any way. A sign of how it was cut off from the outside world is it local dialect, Manarolese. Manarola’s primary industry is fishing and wine making from grapes that grow in the vineyards inland from the town. Manarola was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 1999.
