Ancient Egypptian wood model of beer being brewed, 1990-1786 BC, , 12th Dynasty, Asyut. Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon inv 1969-399. This model of beer being brewed in the presence of the master is typical of the wooden tomb models deposited as grave goods in the tombs and burial shafts in Middle Kingdom of Egypt. They also included a wide variety of wooden figurines and scenes, such as boats, granaries, baking and brewing scenes and butchery scenes. Beer brewing was important in Egypt as beer was safer to drink than water. as the alcohol killed any bacteria.
