The Virgin Mary is seated with the child standing on her lap, in an attitude of blessing, accompanied by angels with incentives. The composition is very simple and fuses Sienese and Florentine pictorial traditions in the style of Lorenzo Monaco, monk of the convent of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Florence and the last representative of the style of Giotto before the Renaissance revival of Fra Angelico.

Pere Garcia, one of the most outstanding representatives of the Aragonese school of influence of flamenco, works for several Aragonese and Catalan centres. From the church of Sant Joan del Mercat in Lleida there are some tables of the old high altarpiece, a large piece of furniture dedicated to Bautista, partially preserved and one of the narrative chambers, the Banquet of Herod. This scene, in which Salome presents the head of St. John to Herod. <br />

The styling of the scene allows us to imagine how a festive banquet took place in a noble Catalan house in the second half of the fifteenth century.<br />

At the beginning of the 20th century, the altarpiece was kept in the parish church of Puertomingalvo (Teruel), but it could originally have come from the chapel of Santa Bárbara near this town. This altarpiece is attributed to the painter Gonçal Peris Sarrià, one of the chief representatives of Valencian International Gothic. His style is marked by expressive and picturesque elements, the flowing line and the charm of the colour. The main compartment of the altarpiece represents the titular saint with her distinctive attributes –the tower, in allusion to her imprisonment, and the palm, as she is considered a martyr-- and above her the Calvary. On either side are depicted various episodes from the life of Saint Barbara, who was called on to keep away lightning and storms. .
